MEET
MUNCH.
Stay curious.

A famous face is only the beginning. Make space for the colours, the quiet moments and the questions that follow you out of the museum.

One museum.
Many ways of looking.

This guide helps you prepare for MUNCH, notice more in the galleries and leave with your own interpretation. No expertise required.

Start with three questions

The field guide

Choose your
starting point.

Practical before you go.
Thoughtful when you get there.

A change of mood

There is light
here, too.

Munch is often reduced to anxiety. Look at the energy in The Sun: a landscape becomes an event, and light seems to push towards you.

This is a looking prompt, not a promise that a particular work will be on display on your visit. Check the museum’s current programme.

Explore beyond The Scream

Before you set off

The right place.
The right expectations.

MUNCH is in Bjørvika at Edvard Munchs plass 1. It is a different institution from Norway’s National Museum. Both hold versions of Munch’s famous motifs.
